This collection consists of material from Holland's time at Jefferson Medical College, except for an 1879 Louisville newspaper article entitled "Dr. HollandΓÇÖs Address."
James W. Holland was born in Louisville, KY on April 24, 1849. He attended the University of Louisville where he earned his B.A. in 1865 and his M.A in 1868. He also graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1868. Upon graduation he returned to Louisville and set up a private practice. In 1872 he was elected Chair of Practice of Medicine and Clinical Medicine at the University of Louisville, a position he held for 13 years before leaving Louisville in 1885 to become Chair of Medical Chemistry and Toxicology at Jefferson Medical College. From 1887 until 1916 Holland was also the JMC Dean of Faculty. During his career Holland was a member of numerous medical societies and was editor of the Medical News. He died February 10, 1922.
