This collection consists of notebooks (1927-1931) written by Dr. Hawley during his time as a student at Jefferson Medical College. The collection also contains other notebooks used by Dr. Hawley but written by others. Topics documented by the notebooks include: chemistry, ethics, histology, obstetrics and pathology.

Biographical / Historical

Charles Francis Hawley (1901-1991) was born on April 4, 1901. Originally from Binghamton, NY, he attended Holy Cross College and graduated with his B.A. degree in 1923. He earned his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College, graduating in 1932. Hawley was licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania that same year. He specialized in family medicine as well as anesthesiology. He was a member of both the American Medical Association and the American Anesthesiologist Association. Charles Francis Hawley died on March 23, 1991, shortly before his 90th birthday.
